If you are an eligible research and education institute that requires connection to advanced networks, BCNET provides Research and Higher Education Network Services.
Eligibility
To be eligible for Research and Education Network Services, you must be a university, institute, library, museum or lab that has a research mandate. The Research and Education Network Service is a bundled offering and includes all of the services below:
Connections to the Global Research and Education Network
Through BCNET's Optical Regional Advanced Network (ORAN), members are connected to the CANARIE national network that links to research and education networks around the world.
No-Fee Regional Peering Service
The regional peering router enables no-fee data exchange between research and higher education affiliates connected at the same local Transit Exchange (PDF). Our regional peering service eliminates carrier costs between members.
Point-to-Point VLAN Connections
BCNET offers up to 20 point-to-point VLAN connections, providing direct high-speed connections between two points. A virtual local area network (VLAN) is a virtual connection to another institute of choice. For example, you may require point-to-point connections to other universities, research institutes, health authorities or ISPs through a virtual point-to-point circuit. The advantage of VLAN point-to-point is the combined computer networks will behave as if they are connected to the same wire.
Ethernet Connectivity Options
Members can choose between two levels of high-speed service:
Fast Ethernet service - 100 Mbps
Gigabit Ethernet Service - 1000 Mbps for high-volume users
