Changes to the BCNET Board of Directors

BCNET Welcomes New Board Members

We are pleased to announce the appointment of two new Board officers and the election of three new members to our Board of Directors. Gayle Gorrill, Vice-President, Finance & Operations at the University of Victoria is elected as Chair of the BCNET Board for a two-year term. Also appointed as Vice-Chair is Dr. Jonathan Bagger, Director of TRIUMF, who will serve for a two-year term. Dr. Steve Grundy, Vice-President, Academic & Provost at Royal Roads University remains on the Board as past-chair.

The newly elected directors: Brian Mackay, Associate Vice-President, Technology and CIO at Douglas College, will serve for a one-year term; Curtis Morcom, Vice-President, Employee & Corporate Services at Okanagan College, will serve for a three-year term; Dr. Dan Ryan, Provost & Vice-President Academic at the University of Northern British Columbia, will serve for one additional year. All Directors were elected at the BCNET Annual General Meeting held on October 3, 2019.

New Board Members

 

Brian Mackay, Associate Vice-President, Technology and CIO, Douglas College

Brian has a 20-year career as a CIO within the higher education sector in BC. He returns to the Board, where he previously served as past-Chair and Director. Brian is an active member of the BCNET Cybersecurity and Identity Management Services Committee, as well as the Board Finance and Audit Committee  He also served as the Board Secretary for the Canadian University Council of CIOs (CUCCIO).

Curtis Morcom, Vice-President, Employee & Corporate Services, Okanagan College

Curtis holds a Bachelor of Business of Administration degree from Okanagan University College and is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA). In addition, Curtis holds the Chartered Director (C.Dir) designation delivered in partnership between the Conference Board of Canada and McMaster University. Curtis is currently the Vice-President Employee & Corporate Services at Okanagan College, where he has oversight of the $121M College operating budget. 

Dr. Dan Ryan, Provost & Vice-President Academic, University of Northern British Columbia

Dr. Ryan leads comprehensive strategic planning and works to ensure the implementation of academic priorities at UNBC. The Office of the Provost collaborates with governance, academic, administrative, research, finance and other service areas of the University to ensure UNBC delivers excellence in academic programs and research initiatives.

We wish to thank past-chair, Dr. Steve Grundy for his dedication and contributions to BCNET and our member stakeholders. Steve has served on the Board for 16 years and as Chair for two years. His dedication and leadership are instrumental in helping BCNET evolve as a shared services organization.
