Dr. John Chenoweth

As a proud member of the Upper Nicola Indian Band (Okanagan Nation), Dr. Chenoweth brings over three decades of experience in Indigenous education. In the fall of 2024, Dr. Chenoweth was appointed as the President and CEO of Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT). Throughout his career, he has been dedicated to advancing opportunities for marginalized communities.

Dr. Chenoweth is a graduate of University of British Columbia's Native Indian Teacher Education Program (NITEP). From there, he went on to serve as a teacher, Principal, and District Principal for First Nations Education. His teaching career began in 1994, and he transitioned to the post-secondary level in 2007, becoming the Dean of Community Education, Associate and VP Academic, respectfully, and finally, President and CEO.

In his role as President of NVIT, Dr. Chenoweth remains deeply committed to the work of revitalizing Indigenous languages and incorporating traditional Indigenous story-work into educational leadership and practice. His vision is grounded in service, cultural empowerment, and the creation of inclusive environments.

Dr. Chenoweth is also a devoted family man, married for 33 years and father to two sons. His leadership and insight will be a welcome addition to the BCNET Board, strengthening our collective work in reconciliation and equity.
