AI has the ability to transform the education landscape, providing institutions with the potential for enhanced productivity through automation, the use of chatbots, and analysis of large data sets for decision-making. However, this is only possible if staff are equipped with the knowledge of how and when to use AI. UBC’s AI Steering Committee oversees university-wide guidelines on the ethical and responsible use of AI. The committee created an AI Training Framework for staff, highlighting AI competencies, learning outcomes, and resources ranging from basic to expert/mastery level.

Additionally, the session will demonstrate how UBC is approaching training specific to IT teams to support AI adoption, moving people from awareness to application of AI technologies. In this session, we’ll cover:

  • An overview of UBC's AI Staff Training Framework, including AI Foundations, Technical Skills and Knowledge, Ethical and Legal considerations, and AI’s impact on Teaching and Learning.
  • How we use this framework to deliver department and role-specific training to enhance UBC's overall AI Literacy.
  • Role-specific training for IT teams to support AI adoption.

Join us for a look at the strategies behind building an AI training program that fosters staff growth in an AI-driven world.
