Competing with many strategic and critical IT initiatives, IT disaster recovery did not attain enterprise level focus within UBC. While standalone resilience solutions abound, there was no consistent, integrated, and scalable enterprise systems disaster recovery at UBC, resulting in an inadequate degree of disaster resilience for key enterprise systems and operations. This session will chronicle the journey of UBC IT disaster recovery from being identified as a high priority item on the Risk Register of the UBC Board of Governors, to the governance and solution process resulting in a viable business case, to UBC Executive approval of the project, to the engagement of the various stakeholder groups of UBC IT for disaster recovery, and the deployment and operationalization of an enterprise IT disaster recovery solution.

The speaker will cover business problems, to governance engagement, solution alignment, and lessons learned throughout the IT DR deployment journey at UBC.
