Project Governance without a PMO: An Experiment with Scrum

Without a PMO or structured governance model to select and prioritize project requests, IT is stuck playing “all powerful ruler” to decide on projects. Somebody invariably feels jilted and this is a quick way to go from hero to zero. At UNBC we decided to do something different. Taking a lead from Scrum we turned our Banner User Group meeting into a modified sprint planning meeting. We moved from a hierarchical structure to on that is flat and collaborative. The stakeholders decide the priority. This is our story. What worked and what did not.
