UVic has built a custom enterprise research administration tool to support researchers applying for approvals and funding. The Research Administration Information System (RAIS) is a one-stop integrated online system for submission of research application forms (ethics, funding, etc.), supporting and tracking the review processes and document storage. RAIS enables researchers and administrative staff to connect ethics approvals with research accounts in compliance with federal Tri-Agency requirements. This presentation provides a look at the project processes including agile development, usability testing, client involvement, and communication. We will also cover technical architecture, including document storage, BPMN (business process model notation), open-source workflow engine, automated testing and security reviews. The UVic research community has embraced RAIS and we are proud to demonstrate its successes.
