Data governance is an emerging trend in enterprise information management in an environment where most higher education institutions have distinct data governance practices spread throughout the organization. Providing an access-certification activity to report on the overall management of the availability, usability, integrity, and security of the data is a clear, end-goal aiming to support enterprise IT security and regulatory compliance. An established data governance model will also allow for a more consolidated identity governance model with clear orchestration of identity management and access control. This session explores the initial ground work of creating a framework for data governance and the role of information technology to access data.
