With the ever-evolving technology landscape and shifting expectations of the communities we serve, we cannot afford to be complacent as IT professionals. As we contend with institutional technical debt, legacy practices and an increasingly competitive IT job market, the risk of faltering or possibly even failing due to a lack of capacity or capability to contend with the new demands placed upon us is becoming increasingly of concern. It isn't all doom and gloom. Taking a purposeful and proactive approach to the assessment of our current bench strength relative to the future needs of the institution, we can begin to ready ourselves not for one particular project or technology, but instead for an entirely new mindset that is centred on workforce resiliency, adaptability and agility. The session will provide insight into the early stages of UBC IT's journey into Strategic Workforce Planning; exploring the drivers, and approach to developing a framework and the results thus far.
