The Genome Sciences Centre hosts about 12 PB of data comprised many multi-gig large files and many more files less than 1 meg. In 2014 the GSC learned the hard way that having backups did not mean being protected from a disastor. This talk will dive into the goals and purposes behind backups showing the audience how they need to rethink what backups should mean as we purposefully blur the lines between disaster recovery, business continuity and backups. Finally, we will discuss the solution which the GSC implemented in early 2018 to address this issue.

Note: There will be no slides provided for this session.
