Population Data BC makes linked population health based data (Health, Education, Vital Statistics, etc.) available to researchers on behalf of data stewards. To do this we have created a Secure Research Environment where researchers can access the data and perform their analysis, but the privacy and security of the data remains protected.

This talk will describe the experiences, challenges and lessons learned in creating and running the environment, including:

  • Technical description
  • Security considerations
  • Performance and scaling
  • Balancing data stewards' and researchers' concerns
  • Filtering and releasing outputs
  • Tools for researchers
